Managed IT support for schools

The value is in how those people work together. Your technician has experienced colleagues to call on, leaders have someone to work through decisions with, and the school has a team keeping track of what needs attention now and what is coming next.

Dependable onsite support, with the whole EA team behind you

Having someone onsite who knows your school makes it easier to explain a problem, get help and keep teaching and learning moving. With EA, that person is backed by a wider team who can bring in specialist expertise, coordinate the next steps and keep school leaders informed as work progresses.

Educator-led coordination that keeps leaders informed

Our technical services team is led by educator Melanie Eggins, connecting the work of technicians and engineers with the needs of teachers and school leaders. Scheduling, communication and follow-through are coordinated across the team, giving your onsite person the support to concentrate on the work in front of them. For MACS schools, that includes helping manage technical requirements communicated by the system office. When a security update is required, we explain what needs to happen, schedule the work and confirm when it is complete. Leaders can keep track of progress without having to interpret and coordinate each technical task themselves.

Specialist help connected to your school’s direction

Your technician can draw on senior technicians and engineers to investigate difficult issues and improve how the environment runs. Our service and operations teams help coordinate repairs, replacements, quotes and orders. When a support issue raises a bigger question about device planning or the ICT budget, we bring in the people who can work through that decision with you. The EA leadership team remain involved through regular reviews and an escalation path for concerns that need wider attention. Those conversations connect day-to-day support with your priorities for teaching, learning and future investment. The relationship continues as your school’s needs change.

Start with the support your school needs

You can work with EA for managed support, specialist help or a particular part of your device program, while keeping other providers and your own ICT staff involved. Working with us gives you a connection to the wider EA team, and we draw on that expertise as needs arise. We agree the services and costs with you, so the relationship can grow at a pace that makes sense for your school.

Built around your school's needs

We begin with what your school wants to achieve through digital learning, then look at the people, systems and support needed to get there. The arrangement can combine the following models and adapt as your priorities, internal capability and device program change.

Managed support

For schools that want EA to take ongoing responsibility for an agreed scope, a managed service can combine remote support, a planned onsite presence, maintenance, specialist escalation, documentation, reporting and regular service reviews. The scope is agreed before the service begins. It may cover staff and student devices, device management, common applications, identity, classroom technology, repair coordination and defined parts of the network or infrastructure. Clear ownership matters: the school should know what it can bring to the helpdesk, what EA will manage and when a request needs to become separately scoped project work.

Co-managed IT

Many schools already have a capable ICT manager, technician, digital learning leader or staff member who knows the community well. Co-managed support works alongside those people rather than displacing them. EA can provide extra capacity, specialist engineering depth, cover during busy periods and a dependable escalation path for work that should not rest with one person. We can also help establish runbooks, decision rules and shared documentation so local knowledge remains useful and specialist support is easier to call on.

Regular onsite and remote support

Some work is easier to resolve in the school. A familiar onsite person can see how devices, classrooms, staff routines and infrastructure interact, while remote support gives staff a way to raise issues between visits. The balance depends on the school's needs. An agreed onsite rhythm can be paired with helpdesk intake, triage and remote resolution, with unresolved or higher-risk work moved to the right specialist. Continuity matters, but support should never rest with one person alone. Shared records, team visibility and escalation make it possible for someone else to step in with context when the familiar technician is unavailable.

Project and specialist support

Not every school needs an ongoing managed service. EA can also support a defined audit, remediation project, deployment, migration or infrastructure change, then hand over the environment with documentation and training. This can suit a capable internal team that needs specialist help with Wi-Fi, identity, Apple School Manager, Jamf or another device-management environment, filtering, a device rollout or a recurring issue that has resisted day-to-day troubleshooting.

Make the most of your support budget

An hourly or daily rate tells you part of the cost of support. It also matters who is backing the technician, who coordinates the work, and how well the available time serves your school. Our aim is to help you get more useful work from the ICT budget you have, with an agreed recurring cost and clear visibility of how the support allocation is being used.

When a new requirement or a planned project comes up, we first look at what can be accommodated within your agreed support allocation. That may mean reshaping the schedule to make room for a system update or deployment preparation. Larger changes can still need a separate scope and budget; we explain the options and agree any additional work with you before proceeding.

For a closer look at one common source of recurring disruption, see how we help schools audit and improve Wi-Fi capability. Schools planning equipment refreshes can also explore device lifecycle, finance and procurement.

Support that follows the rhythm of school life

Support needs rise and fall across the school year. New staff, student onboarding, device rollouts and end-of-year transitions can all call for more time. Because we work with your school throughout the year, we can plan around those peaks and adjust the timing of support within the agreed allocation.

Where the environment is running well and maintenance is on track, we can agree to move some onsite time from a quieter period to a busier one, such as an end-of-year rollout. We make those decisions together, keeping essential maintenance covered. This gives business managers a more predictable recurring cost and school leaders flexibility to direct support where it will be most useful.

The agreement sets out the onsite rhythm, service hours, holiday coverage and response expectations. Regular reviews let us adjust the plan as needs change, while keeping the school informed about priorities, available time and any work that needs additional funding.

How we can help

A support arrangement can keep functioning long after it has stopped serving the school well. The signs are often familiar:

  • the same faults keep returning without the underlying cause being resolved;
  • one staff member carries too much knowledge, and work stalls when they are unavailable;
  • teachers are unsure where to ask for help or whether anyone has the issue in hand;
  • support depends on informal messages, memory or undocumented workarounds;
  • device repairs, replacements and app requests move slowly between different providers;
  • leadership has little visibility of recurring issues, risks or upcoming costs;
  • urgent work crowds out maintenance, planning and improvement; or
  • the support model no longer fits the size, platforms or direction of the school.

These are not always signs that a school needs to outsource everything. Sometimes the answer is more regular onsite coverage. Sometimes it is a better helpdesk and escalation process, specialist depth behind a capable internal team, or a defined project to repair one part of the environment. We begin by working out which problem the school is actually trying to solve.

Frequently asked questions

How much does managed IT support for a school cost?

We agree a recurring service cost based on your environment, support needs, onsite rhythm and the work already covered by school staff or other providers. The value includes the team supporting your technician, service coordination and regular reviews. We plan how the agreed allocation can meet changing needs through the year and explain any work that needs a separate quote.

How quickly will you respond?

Response targets are agreed as part of the service model. Requests are prioritised according to their urgency and effect on learning or school operations, with a defined escalation path for higher-impact issues. We do not publish one response promise for every school because support hours, coverage and needs differ.

Do you support government, Catholic and independent schools?

Yes. We work with government, Catholic and independent schools and adapt the service to the governance, platforms, system requirements and local responsibilities of each setting.

Can you work with our existing ICT staff?

Yes. Co-managed support is designed to strengthen an existing team. We can provide additional capacity, specialist escalation, documentation and coaching while keeping school staff close to the systems and decisions they are best placed to own.

Do you only support Apple devices?

No. We have substantial capability in Apple and Jamf environments, but schools often need support across Microsoft, Google, Windows, Chrome, identity, Wi-Fi, filtering and other systems. We begin with the school's actual environment and agree what is within scope.

What support is available during school holidays?

Holiday coverage is set out in your agreement. We plan maintenance and deployments around the school calendar and can agree to move some support time to those periods where it is useful and essential maintenance remains covered. We confirm what fits within the existing allocation and what needs a separate project scope.

Can onsite support time change during the year?

Yes. We can agree to adjust the timing of some onsite support within your allocation, moving time from a quieter period to a rollout or another busy point in the school year. We review the school’s needs and maintenance requirements first, then agree what can move. Essential upkeep continues, and any work beyond the agreed allocation is discussed with you.

Do we need to buy our devices through EA to use your support?

No. We can support your school alongside existing suppliers and your internal ICT team. You can begin with the help you need now and draw on our wider expertise as your needs develop. We agree the scope and cost of the services you use, including any additional work.
